British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) 2010

Just got back from Birmingham where I was attending this year’s British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Annual Clinical Conference. It is a four day conference attended by over a thousand delegates from all over the world, though fewer than half are from the UK. One of my jobs whilst I was there was to introduce a new 3D movie by Johnson & Johnson VisionCare to groups of Eye Care Practitioners in my role as Professional Affairs Consultant with J&J. Whilst not exactly Avatar it used spectacular 3D graphics to introduce their new product, 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism. This new contact lens comes in a lot more powers than previous contact lenses of this type and will allow us to offer many more astigmatic people of Oxford the option of more comfortable Daily Disposable contact lenses.
So if you have astigmatism and couldn’t wear Daily Disposables before. ask us again and you may be in luck!
I also managed to get to quite a few lectures, the best of which was the latest research into myopia progression with the prospect of exciting new contact lenses in the next few years designed to slow down the progression of short-sightedness. Watch this space! – DS
